Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is not your typical drawing class, its about opening your mind, pushing the envelope, encompassing the model's personality and uniqueness, engaging contests and having a fun time. It is Art School Meets Cabaret! While the models are not nude, they are certainly interesting; Our lineup includes belly dancers, contortionists, body builders, cosplayers, drag queens, Pinups and roller derby girls.
Started in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple it is the little New York art event that became a movement. Artist’s draw glamorous burlesque dancers, compete in contests, and win wacky prizes. From it’s humble Brooklyn beginnings, Dr. Sketchy’s now has over 100 branches around the globe, including Los Angeles, London, Rome, Tokyo, Melbourne and now SW Florida!
I’ve been trying to keep track of any “Call to Artist” posting that the local SWFL galleries are sharing online – hopefully you have been able to take advantage of these opportunities to have your artwork shown.
I just noticed that there are several deadlines approaching so I thought would remind everyone of the due dates:
Space 39 - ”Los Muertos – A Celebration of the Sugar Skull”
Submission Deadline: TODAY! Monday, April 23rd 2012
Opening Reception: May 4th 2012 (Ft Myers Art Walk)
I am not sure how I missed it, but earlier this month the Dr. Sketchy’s St. Augustine branch announced that it is shutting its doors after only 8 months of Sketchiness.
I’m taking song requests for our Dr Sketchy SWFL goes Under the Sea w/Mermaid Marla & the Skeleton Pirate Playlist….post your suggestions or else you’ll be leaving it up to me again and you might end up hearing this…..
well…you’ll probably hear it anyway but what do YOU want to draw to?

Dr Sketchy at In Your Face Cupcakes
Southwest Florida Dr Sketchy Anti Art School recently took place at a new time and location last Wednesday evening at In Your Face Cupcakes. This most recent running of the event marked a new beginning for the event as the upscale drink and desert bar will serve as host for future Dr Sketchy Anti Art School sessions in Punta Gorda. Candy Muldune and Rowdy Pants from the Fort Lauderdale based “Cupcake Burlesque” served as the two female models who posed for this past Anti-Art School running.
Send me your pictures so I can show them off too! I have a blog to write and need your artwork so people can see that its not all feathers and tassels….we really do draw!
